Waiting for becoming a so-called Foundation, FCM is incubated since the 13/12/10 as a fund hosted by the Fondation Roi Baudoin(1); this will allow FCM to benefit from all the expertise of FRB which we thank the staff for their daily support. The fund is now referenced on the web.

Structured in May 2010 to respond to the need of revitalizing Maghreb’s bleds(2), FCM acts, on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea, as a link, among others, between the two continents. Raising funds from generous donors in Europe, it also hopes to receive money in Maghreb, and has already received proposals for this purpose. Founders are members of the Anna Lindh Foundation(3).

Whereas Maghreb extends itself from Libya to Mauritania and covers Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, FCM has decided to begin its work in that country and created an eponymous Association « Fondation Cœur Maghrébin », filed with the Caïdat of Annakhil North in Marrakesh on 13/12/10, the same day, FCM was filed with FRB. It shall address the villages located in the Haouz region, South-east of the tourist capital.

(1) The mission of the Fondation Roi Baudouin is both clear and complex: to help improving the living conditions of the population. In the act of constitution of 1976, the Foundation is described as "an independent structure that encourages original ideas and launch new projects." The Fondation Roi Baudouin supports projects and citizens with a commitment for a better society. We contribute in a sustainable way to bring more justice, democracy and respect for diversity.

(2) A bled (bilad) means a country in the strictly etymological sense, that is to say coming from the Low Latin pagensis, properly "pagus inhabitants, township inhabitants." In the Maghreb, a bled (as opposed to the derivative use of settlement: village) means: the village built, adjacent gardens and the fields around, all extending to the borders of the township, those in which the tribe of nomads first taken up residence.

(3) The Anna Lindh Fundation aims to contribute to bring people closer on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea in order to improve mutual respect between cultures. Since its inception in 2005, the Anna Lindh Foundation has launched and sustained actions across different areas with a significant impact on mutual perceptions of people from different cultures and religions, and has established a network of regional-scale with more than 3,000 civil society organizations.
